**Abstract:

In a world of complex products, software and hardware are often at the core of the solution. While development for software and hardware have both evolved over time, there are some key differences worth exploring. We will focus on how the methods used in IC Design can be considered for a different path for the software development team.

Bio:

Andrew Cahoon is presently the Managing Director at Clarum Group (process improvement consulting firm) and is a Senior Project Manager at Mutual Mobile (smartphone and tablet application consulting firm). He has more than 30 years experience in development and management of high tech solutions (supercomputers, microprocessors, hardware, firmware, software) with a strong emphasis on Continuous Improvement at companies that include several major corporations (AMD, Freescale, Intel) as well as small startups (ETA, WireX, PowerPrecise). His formal education includes a BS in Computer Engineering (University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana), an Executive MBA (University of Oregon, Eugene), Lean Academy training at AMD (Toyota, Porsche, McKinsey), and coursework in Lean principles (Lean Education Institute). He has also started his Agile journey through coursework at ACC (Agile Austin instructors) and is an active Scrum Leader.  He participates in community groups including Austin Software Process Improvement Network, Agile Austin, Lean Software of Austin, and Lean Startup.
